New FOI Ombudsman Committee Chair appointed

The Taiwan Financial Ombudsman Institution (FOI) Board of Directors convened and elected Ms. Leng-Chia Hung as the Ombudsman Committee Chair and President on February 1, 2021. Ms. Hung has already ploughed herself into the task of ombudsman with other 17 Ombudsman Committee members who specialize in banking, insurance and securities.

Professor Hung is the Associated Professor of Law at National Chung-Cheng University. After receiving a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from University of Illinois, Prof. Hung acquired New York State Bar admissions, and then dedicated herself into legal education in Taiwan. She had joined Feng-Chia University, Soochow University and National Chung-Cheng University as an assistant/associated professor, and her research fields include Company Act, Securities Regulations, Financial Consumer Protection, and recent years in Elder Finance Exploitation, etc.

With abundant experience and knowledge of financial law, Prof. Hung also severed as the committee member of the Company Act Amendment Committee and the director of the Forensic Accounting Research Development Association before. As the Committee Chair and the President, President Hung will devote greater effort on major missions of FOI: enhancing the quality of financial dispute resolution process, promoting financial literacy, and building well-functioning elder financial protection.

Being the President of FOI, Prof. Hung expressed sincerely appreciation for Chairperson Carol Lin, the Board, and the 4th Ombudsman Committee members’ support. President Hung also indicated, the FOI is facing the challenges that the complexity and the quantity of the ombudsman cases has increased, and the importance of financial education and awareness has risen. Therefore, with the joint efforts, President Hung is looking forward to work with the FOI colleagues, together will make sure that every financial consumer dispute will be resolved properly and effectively, and the promotion of financial education and awareness could be far-reaching. The FOI will continue to work hard in achieving the legislative purpose of the Financial Consumer Protection Act and strengthen financial consumer protection.
